Infectious Bronchitis in Poultry (IB)

Infectious Bronchitis in Poultry (IB)

It is a viral disease that affects poultry and infectious bronchitis is considered one of the most dangerous diseases that affect poultry

Meat and eggs, where it causes great losses, especially in large pandemics and variable periods that cause severe kidney damage in infected herds.

Symptoms of infectious bronchitis infection

Symptoms and severity vary depending on many factors, including the immunity of birds, the degree of infection, the type of crowding, in addition to breeding factors (heat-humidity-ventilation), but in general we can see the following :

Symptoms in adult and productive chickens, where the symptoms are characterized only by a drop in production in a few days to forty percent or less without the presence of any respiratory symptoms and a decrease in the quality of eggs, where there is a high percentage of eggs without shell and a high percentage of macosperm in the eggs produced.the eggs produced contain the softness of the Whites (albumin ) and the whites and yolks mix (hint ) when the eggs are broken, the economic loss is greater than in the chicks, especially since the case lasts perhaps for three months before production returns to rates that may be close to normal, depending on the age of the flock.

Lethargy with a fluff of feathers.

Birds gather next to the heat source

Decrease in feed withdrawal.

Strange respiratory sounds and it is possible to observe sounds in the form of a cry with his neck stretched up to breathe caused by difficulty breathing (and should be distinguished from infectious laryngotracheitis – ILT).

Hyperemia of the conjunctiva of the eye and lacrimal discharge.

Nasal discharge.

In cases of severe renal impairment, an increase in water consumption may be observed due to kidney problems .

Congestion and serous and mucous secretions in the respiratory passages (trachea and bronchi) and up to the formation of blockages in the branching of the trachea.

Infections of the kidneys, ovaries .

The disease is characterized by a rapid onset and can affect all ages and cause significant death if the titers are heterogeneous.

It is possible to observe infectious bronchitis disease in two forms, namely :

Respiratory form: it is characterized by causing damage to the respiratory system and therefore the appearance of respiratory symptoms in the form of tracheal obstruction and the presence of mucus, which is often curdled, and as a result, oxygen does not reach the blood and various tissues, and this leads to the appearance of signs of cyanosis in the custom and functions.

Renal form: in it, infections of the kidneys and liver occur, ureters are filled with urea, and as a result, kidney failure occurs.

When infected with laying hens, it affects the eggs, and there are infections in the ovaries, blockage of the oviduct, and changes in The Shape of the eggs .

Treatment of infectious bronchitis

When noticing any changes in the herd in terms of reduced feed withdrawal and a decrease in the vitality and activity of birds, a veterinarian should be consulted in order to detect the herd and take samples for autopsy and to determine the condition and immune status of the herd and the possibility of secondary bacterial infection, but in general it is possible to focus on the following points:

Raise the temperature in the barn by 2 degrees above the required rate.

The use of dialysis and kidney tonic in case of kidney injury in order to alleviate kidney problems, especially in the case of previous stressful treatment or infection with mycotoxins.

The use of immunostimulating levers.

Spray sterilizers on a daily basis and water sterilizers can be used in periods when there is no treatment in drinking water.

In the event of a secondary bacterial infection, one of the antibiotics with a mild effect on the kidneys of birds should be used to avoid damage to the kidneys.
